Together we have fun!
School

The Kurtakko School (established 1925) has students from the villages of Kurtakko and Ylläsjärvi. The school has two teachers, classes 0 - 6. The school focuses on articulacy and entrepreneurship.

In addition to the schoolwork, every year the students and teachers prepare a Junkan Jänkä theatrical performance that tells of the area's history, people and current issues. The performance will be shown in peak season times from the end of February through to May Day, once a week in the Ylläsjärvi travel centre. The returns from the performance are used for the annual summer camp (classes 3 - 6), which visits different destinations every year either in the neighbouring country or within Finland.

The association "Koti ja Koulu ry" run by the pupils' parents works in collaboration with the school to arrange events such as the Ylläsjärvi bottle hunt, where refundable bottles are collected in to partly finance the children's summer camp. The bounty from the currant fields is sold to local wine makers.
